Pokémon Go, a free to play location-based mobile game released on July 6, 2016, created a sensation in mobile gaming within eight days of its release by beating Twitter in the number of daily users on Android. Developed by Niantic Labs (Niantic) for iOS and Android devices, the game was churning out an annual revenue rate of more than US$1 billion. Pokémon Go was a game based on augmented reality and was available in 45 countries. According to some estimates, Pokémon generated about US$1.6 million in revenues per day and had crossed 100 million downloads by the first week of August 2016 worldwide.
